Rose and Isabel 2 - Workspace

Here is the current base of operations for R&I 2, the dining room table. It's fairly neat as it's still early in the process. I'm about 30 pages into the new book with a planned total of 128 pages. I've been reading a lot and below are two books I found that focus very specifically on a part of the war that the gals become involved with: Grant's Overland campaign, including the battles at the North Anna River and the battle of Cold Harbor. What's amazing to me is that To the North Anna River focuses on just 13 days of the war, and is also a time that is not given much attention compared to other battles. There is more detail in this volume than I could ever hope to convey in a graphic novel. I just hope that I can get across some of what I picture in my mind when I read this. Next up will be Not War but Murder about the battle at Cold Harbor, which was extremely savage and brutal. Rose and Isabel will be involved here as well. Expect lots of action! (sorry about the crappy photos).

I'm looking forward to this book. You're doing an impressive amount of research that sounds like it will really pay off in the story.

I'm curious, what comic do you have open on the table for inspiration and what about those painted canvases in the background?

Cool! It Shall be a good comic. Glad to see all the nice detail you are putting into it!

Keep it up!

John - the comic that's open is part two of Hellboy - The Island. I have always loved Mignola's storytelling and page layout, not to mention his amazing drawing, characters, stories, etc. But it's open mainly for page layout inspiration.

The canvases are a bunch of studies from a few years back. At the time I was trying to do one small canvas a week, which I wasn't able to keep up with for more than a couple months. I'm part of a gallery show that's being planned for Canvas next year, so I'm gettting ready to start painting again. The canvases are sitting there as a reminder...

ps: thanks for the heads up about the spaghetti western thing, i'll make sure to check it out!

GREAT Ted. I'm trying to get myself into gear with my own comic project and it's helpful see to someone else tearing it up after work to get me going. Tombows rule!

I love Tombows! I remember hearing a rumor a number of years back that they were going to stop making them...so I bought a bunch in '96 and still have a box or two laying around. Best..pencils...ever!

Glad you found the post inspiring. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I bought a bunch of boxes recently for the same reason. They are super nice...and discontinued. The 2b is fantastic.
