Now What?

Now that the craziness of producing 224 pages of material for the two Rose and Isabel books is over, I can't help but feel a certain kind of creative void, like something is missing. It's best to strike while the iron is hot, so here's a rough sketch of Lilith, a character I've been intrigued about for some time. Right now I'm exploring a story for a color book in which Lilith will have a large role.

From Wikipedia:

Lilith is a female Mesopotamian night demon. In Isaiah 34:14, Lilith (לִּילִית, Standard Hebrew Lilit) is a kind of night-demon or animal, translated as onokentauros; in the Septuagint, as lamia; "witch" by Hieronymus of Cardia; and as screech owl in the King James Version of the Bible. In the Talmud and Midrash, Lilith appears as a night demon. She is often identified as the first wife of Adam, a legend that arose in the Middle Ages.

More on Lilith here.

Not that Mignola has the market on all things mythology, but that's very Hellboy. Also very Kolchak (if your television IQ is up for the flashback). I can just hear Kolchak spouting off that very definition of Lilith into his recorder.

Mignola's work has had a huge influence on me; I'm trying hard not to let too much of that inspration into my own stuff. I haven't seen Night Stalker, but I like Darrin McGavin (if you're talking about the original series). I'll check it out.

How about more sketches and character designs? Open up that sketchbook and give us more than a peek.

Neat character, you can do alot with her. When i saw this it reminded me of that blizzard demon/spirit at the end of the blizzard segment in akira kurosawa's dreams. I'll never forget how much that thing scared me the first time i watched the movie. When the blizzard came she just kept packing more and more blankets of snow on the hikers and telling them, "its warmmm, sleeeeppp". If you havent seen it, its a must... Dreams is a terrific collection of haunting short stories.
