color roughs

I'm roughing color pages at a rate of about 10 a week. Here are a couple of the latest-- I'm focusing on color transitions across pages, and also trying to push the color beyond what I would normally do.

I've also posted something new over at the other blog Current Flavor.

My favorite thing to do with art work is to compare the final 'clean' version to the roughs. I also like seeing other people's roughs. Thank you for posting these.

Looking awesome Ted, I really like how you're using strong warm/cool contrasts in the colour, should give the final book a very distinctive look!

Great pages, it looks very dramatic and yet i don't even know what they're saying. Ridding at night... she must have business...

Your work in Rose and Isabel already had a lot of wonderful mood to it. Your color roughs on Cora are already adding and strengthening this. Gorgeous stuff Ted. This has a really nice feel and unity to it.

Ted,

Warm and cool and interwoven. You get the feel and mood of the book. Awesome. Can't wait to get the final product.

T,
these look really good man. i really appreciate the fact that you use the color for mood.
also i noticed in the previous post that you had your line drawing layer under the color layer. are you working in your colors as a multiply layer?

Hey Ted,

Congratulations on making the final four over at Fistacuffs!

You barely beat my Sledgehairmer, but I'm glad my guy lost to a cool drawing.

Cool stuff on your blog as well! I'll definitely be checking out Rose and Isabel.

Later,

Dan

Thanks Dan, it was a tough battle! Sledgehairmer is a badass dude. Are you throwing in for the tag team?

Dan said...

Yeah,

I teamed up with Matthew Bernier, the guy who did Big Sword for the first round. Are you doing the next one, too?

ovi - yes, i'm working with a multiply layer. one of these days I'm going to have to learn the right way to color comics for print...

dan - i'm teaming up with derek thompson for the next round. our team will be called "beauty pageant"
(they are an ugly duo for sure).
